The hard work and efforts of our legislative champions helped secure a Salary Reserve this summer, despite the Governor?s veto. Direct care human service workers were anticipating receiving their first annualized raise in five years before the holidays.
Disappointingly, the Patrick-Murray administration has indefinitely delayed the release of the Salary Reserve for 29,000 human services workers. Please contact your legislators now to contact Gov. Patrick and express their support for getting low-paid human service workers the modest raise that was promised to them.
While the state is currently not reaching its revenue goals, there is over $1 billion in the state?s Stabilization Fund that is set aside for emergencies, and in our estimation, five years of no annualized pay increase and a last-second pay cut before the holidays should justify the use of these emergency funds.
Direct care workers have some of the most complex jobs in the Commonwealth and provide essential services to one-in-ten Massachusetts residents. It is unacceptable to cut a modest salary adjustment to this important sector of the human service workforce before the holiday season.
