Farnese Named Chairman of Senate Communications and ...

HARRISBURG, Jan. 10, 2013?? State Sen. Larry Farnese (D-Phila.) has once again been named the Democratic Chairman of the Senate Communications and Technology Committee. He was also named as a member of the Senate Appropriations, Judiciary, and Banking and Insurance Committees.

?We need to ensure that we are modernizing our laws to keep pace with the rapid advancements in communications and technology,? said Farnese. ?I?m grateful to once again serve as Chairman of the Communications and Technology Committee and I look forward to working with my colleagues in crafting meaningful public policy that meets the needs of all Pennsylvanians.?

During the 2011-12 legislative session the Communications and Technology Committee worked on legislation, SB 8, to improve patient care through the electronic sharing of health records and related medical information. Farnese was a prime co-sponsor of the bill which was signed into law.

The Appropriations Committee makes key funding decisions, develops the state budget and determines Pennsylvania?s spending priorities. The Judiciary Committee guides legislative action around Pennsylvania?s courts, law enforcement agencies and criminal justice system. And the Banking and Insurance Committee oversees issues related to insurance, banking and investment institutions in Pennsylvania.

Larry Farnese was elected to the Senate in 2008 to represent Pennsylvania?s First Senatorial District which contains some of Philadelphia?s most unique and vibrant neighborhoods from Port Richmond on the Delaware River to Fairmount Park on the Schuylkill River and South Philadelphia, Center City, the Navy Yard, Philadelphia International Airport.
