Paynter 2012 Belmont Stakes Predictions ...

When Hall of Fame trainer Bob Baffert announced that Derby/Preakness favorite Bodemeister would not be engaging in a third confrontation with I?ll Have Another, many people were very disappointed.

?Bodemeister was like I?ll Have Another?s pace car,? joked Baffert. ?These are two different type of horses but (Paynter) is getting better and better. I think the mile-and-a-half would suit him better than it would Bodemeister.?

Now however, the roles have changed dramatically, as Baffert is still in the race, while the Triple Crown hopeful was forced to retire before the start of the 2012 Belmont Stakes predictions. Tonight, Baffert will be trying to win each of the three Triple Crown races at least twice. He?s won the Derby three times (1997, 1998 & 2002) and the Preakness a whopping five times (1997, 1998, 2001, 2002 & 2010).

?Paynter was very highly regarded early,? added the 2001 Belmont Stakes winner. ?I really thought that was going to be one of my best horses. I had Fed Biz and him, and then Bodemeister kind of snuck into the lineup. He was my Jeremy Lin. All of a sudden he went from just Bodemeister to the favorite in the Derby.?

With I?ll Have Another?s career abruptly ending on the eve of the final leg of the Triple Crown, Baffert?s Paynter was promoted to one of the top three betting favorites tonight. As of Saturday afternoon, the fourth-place finisher at the Santa Anita Derby is listed at 9/2 odds to win the 2012 Belmont Stakes predictions.

?Paynter is a horse that?s improving. He?ll get better in the summer,? Baffert added. ?I always had this race in mind for him. I was going to run him in the Preakness, but then Bodemeister looked like he came out of the Derby really well. When he came back I thought we were going to have to scrape him off the ground. But he jumped right back.?
